We’re honored at BIP Capital to once again be named the most active venture capital investor in Georgia for the fourth consecutive time, as assessed by CB Insights:
“Using CB Insights data, we analyzed the most active venture capital firm in each state. We based our selection on which VC had invested in the greatest number of tech startups located in a certain state from 2014 to 2019 YTD (8/7/2019).”
The CB Insights calls out the rise in importance and the number of investments in second tier cities; a trend we have identified in our own research. The CB Insights article notes:
“Although startups based in California, New York, and Massachusetts have traditionally accounted for the majority of VC tech investment in the US, VCs are spurring other hotbeds of innovation across the country.”
The State of StartupsSM in the Southeast for 2018 revealed that a $1 million investment buys the same ownership percentage of a company regardless of region or state. However, businesses in the Southeast have more revenue at the same valuation, perhaps implying that investors got more value for their dollar in the Southeast. This fact might explain why large venture capital funds from the Innovation Hubs are showing a growing interest in investing in southern companies.
What does this tell us? Successful companies are now being built outside of the traditional investment centers in a more balanced supply/demand environment.
We’re proud to see the growth strides made in the Southeast and beyond and look forward to continuing to support and fund innovative solutions!
